Founded in 1908 in Strasbourg, France, SOPREMA has spent more than a century of innovation in the construction sector, growing into a multinational company with operations in more than 90 countries, 123 production plants, 23 research centers, and a network of more than 4,000 distributors.
Today, the company has 10,500 employees worldwide and is distinguished by its offering of waterproofing, thermal and acoustic insulation, green roofs, and sustainable construction systems solutions. This track record has positioned it as one of the most trusted companies in civil engineering and construction projects on five continents.
$5 Billion MXN Investment in San Miguel de Allende
SOPREMA’s arrival in Mexico began in 2018 with the opening of its commercial office in Saltillo, Coahuila, as part of its expansion strategy in Latin America. Since then, the firm has strengthened its presence in the country and is now taking a major step forward with the announcement of its new project in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
The investment, which exceeds 5 billion pesos, will be located in the San Miguel Business Park (PESMA) and will begin operations in October 2025. This strategic step confirms the company’s confidence in the region and in the potential of the Bajío region as a hub for international projects.
Innovation and Sustainability in Construction
Throughout its history, SOPREMA has demonstrated a constant commitment to innovation and sustainability. From the launch of the SOPRANATURE product line in 1995—capable of transforming any rooftop into a green garden—to the development of state-of-the-art waterproofing systems, the company has been a pioneer in reducing the environmental footprint of construction.
Certifications such as LEED, the use of recycled materials, and flagship projects like green roofs confirm that the company seeks not only to build, but also to protect the environment.
With its arrival in San Miguel de Allende, SOPREMA will not only boost the regional economy by creating jobs and integrating local suppliers, but has also announced its commitment to supporting sports and community activities, particularly archery.
This comprehensive approach strengthens the company’s connection to society and opens up new development opportunities in Guanajuato, a state that is consolidating itself as an attractive destination for foreign capital in the construction industry.
From its founding in Europe, its expansion in Canada and Asia, and its presence in Saltillo, to this new phase in the Bajío region, SOPREMA’s history reflects a constant: to innovate, grow, and generate value in each region where it establishes itself.
Today, with more than a century of experience, SOPREMA arrives in San Miguel de Allende to write a new chapter in Mexico, reaffirming its vision of being a world leader in sustainable construction solutions.
