Fewer trucks coming and going: ATY implements operation on routes in eastern Mérida

Following an extraordinary operation launched last week on the Metropolitan Circuit route, the Yucatán Transportation Agency (ATY) activated a similar measure this Monday to ensure mobility in the Los Héroes and Chichí Suárez areas in response to a further decrease in the number of buses on the “Va y Ven” bus system.

The action was implemented five days after concessionaires on the Metropolitan Circuit reduced the number of buses as a pressure measure to force the state government to settle the debt for overdue kilometers traveled.

According to the ATY, the operation seeks to mitigate the impact of the decrease in the number of buses on the “Va y Ven” bus system on the eastern routes of Mérida.

To this end, support buses, vans, and taxis were added, operating at the same times and at the same stops, identified with an official logo and the route name.

The routes included in this contingency plan are: R41 (63 Periférico–San Camilo–Héroes), R42 (59 CTM–Fidel Velázquez–Los Héroes Stage IV), R43 (Prepa 1–Calle 39–Los Héroes Stage III), R44 (Prepa 1–Calle 39–Los Héroes Stages I and II), R49 (Chichí Suárez–Sitpach–Santa María Chí), and R809 (Chichí Suárez–Sitpach–Santa María Chí–Xcuyum).

The Agency specified that payment for these support units will be cash only. The general fare is $10 for buses, vans, and taxis, while the social fare will be $5 for buses and vans, with a valid card.

As part of the operation, four strategic points were established, with inspectors and 10 support taxis at each location: the IMSS Los Héroes, Bodega Aurrera Los Héroes, the Oxxo store located at 135th Street and diagonally 158th Street, and Chichí Suárez Park.
