The Fiesta Grande of Chiapa de Corzo will celebrate another edition in January 2026. From the Chiapas government office in Mexico City, in the Juárez neighborhood, authorities from the southern state affirmed that in less than three months, one of Mexico’s most representative cultural and religious expressions will be celebrated.

María Eugenia Culebro Pérez, Secretary of Tourism for Chiapas, explained that the celebration will take place from January 4 to 23, 2026.

“Today we want to spread the word about this great festival and make it even more international. We want the festival to shine brighter than ever, so everyone can experience this joy and be part of a great celebration,” she stated.

The official affirmed that visitors can visit the state, which “is the safest state in the entire Republic for the fifth consecutive month.”

For her part, Kenia Arroyo Muñiz, representative of the Chiapas government in Mexico City, affirmed that the Chiapa de Corzo Festival is hosting one of the state’s largest and most beloved celebrations.

“Chiapas is not just visited, it is felt, experienced, and shared. These celebrations are what connect with the faith, history, and pride of our people. We must honor the cultural richness of every corner of the state; that is why we celebrate the soul of its people and their identity,” she commented.

While Javier Acevedo, president of the Chiapa de Corzo Magical Towns Committee, described the event as the most important festival for Chiapas and Mexico.

“Chiapas is a meeting point for traditions, languages, and peoples, and this celebration transcends generations and borders. During these days, the streets are filled with music and joy, and people dance throughout the town,” he described.

Acevedo emphasized that the festival is a reminder of the roots and beauty of cultural identity.

“Throughout the festivities, locals and visitors are delighted with pozole, cacao, and rice; every flavor and every aroma tells a story of family and community. Experience the legacy that belongs to all of us in Chiapas, which is cultural resistance,” he mentioned.

What is the Chiapa de Corzo Festival?

Recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, this festival is a display of color, music, dance, gastronomy, and religious fervor.

It is celebrated every year in honor of three patron saints: Lord of Esaupulas (January 15), Saint Anthony the Abbot (January 17), and Saint Sebastian the Martyr (January 20).

During these dates, the city becomes the scene of processions, dances, prayers, fireworks, and socializing.

As part of the January celebration, cultural activities such as the presentation of folkloric performances and marimba concerts, among other activities, take place in the city’s central plaza.

The event was also attended by Andrés Sánchez de León, Undersecretary of Tourism Development of Chiapas; Límbano Domínguez Román, Municipal President of Chiapa de Corzo; and Jenaro Villamil Rodríguez, General Director of the Public Broadcasting System of the Mexican State.
