The Attorney General of the State of Chiapas, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, highlighted that, according to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, from January to October 2025, Chiapas ranked second nationally in the reduction of overall crime rates, with a score of 160.5, only surpassed by Tlaxcala with 150.3; a figure well below the national average of 1,280 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants.
Regarding high-impact crimes, Llaven Abarca noted that Chiapas ranks second with 20.9, just behind Yucatán with 16.2; both significantly lower than the national average of 193.7.
Furthermore, Chiapas ranked first in overall crime rates for the month of October, marking its sixth consecutive month in this position, with 13.1 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants. While Chiapas ranks second in high-impact crimes with 1.9, Yucatán has 1.8, with a national average of 19.1.
“Chiapas continues its trend of being among the safest states in the country. This is work we continue to do every day with responsibility, objectivity, strategy, and coordination with all three levels of government,” he stated.
Addressing the overall crime rate during the week of November 10-16 in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the Attorney General pointed out a 59 percent decrease. Nine investigations were opened, compared to 22 the previous week. The most common crimes were drug dealing, negligent injury, and domestic violence, which occurred primarily in the Centro, Pistimbak, and Terán neighborhoods.
Regarding high-impact crimes, he said there was an increase, with two investigations opened, compared to only one the previous week. These cases involved robberies of pedestrians.
“We are going to reinforce security and continue working in coordination with the Public Security Secretariat of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, so that we can achieve a significant reduction in crime and improve the peace of Tuxtla families,” he added.
After highlighting the collaboration between entities across the country, through the State Attorney General’s Offices, Jorge Llaven reported the arrest of Samuel “N” in Mexico City, as the alleged perpetrator of fraud, in addition to four more investigations being opened with other victims of the same crime.
The amount defrauded is 18 million pesos. His modus operandi involved posing as a construction businessman, deceiving his victims by soliciting cash for the construction of public works projects, which were fictitious, and then failing to return the money.
He emphasized that the detainee is in the custody of the court and that the Prosecutor’s Office will be monitoring the trial, where he could face up to 10 years in prison.
The Attorney General also stated that an investigation has been opened for the crime of attempted aggravated homicide against Abner “N” in the municipality of Tuzantán, who was attacked and suffered second-degree burns.
He detailed that the alleged perpetrator, Mauricio “N”, was arrested as a result of the investigation and has been placed in the custody of the court to face justice; he could face up to 42 years in prison.
He added that, thanks to the support of civil protection personnel, the injured man received immediate medical attention and is reported to be stable and out of danger.
Finally, Jorge Llaven referred to the arrest of Iván “N,” who was apprehended after an investigation was opened following a complaint on social media for posting sexually explicit images, primarily of children and adolescents.
He explained that the complaint was filed by citizens, and in February, a case was opened for the crime of human trafficking, specifically for the production, storage, and distribution of child pornography. He added that the investigation was carried out with the support of the Cyber Police, leading to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, who will now face justice.
