The sixth annual Panucho Fair, “Danos Pan Ucho,” will take place this Saturday, November 22, from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., near the Santa Isabel Hermitage, considered by chroniclers to be the birthplace of this iconic Yucatecan snack.

The event, organized by the Visitation Guild and the Mérida City Council, will offer more than 12,000 panuchos, all for 20 pesos, as well as soft drinks at the same price. There will be around 20 varieties, from the traditional egg and turkey to options like ground beef, Edam cheese, pork belly, and breaded shrimp.

“We want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves; no matter the filling, all the panuchos will be 20 pesos,” said organizer Belem Chan, who explained that this year there will be two stages, a children’s area, and a contest to choose the fair’s ambassador.

The lineup includes the City Hall Folkloric Ballet (5 p.m.), the opening ceremony (6 p.m.), the trio Los Henequenes (8 p.m.), as well as comedy shows, musical groups, and a DJ. The nighttime tour “Nights of Legend at the Hermitage” also returns.

Panucho stands will be located around the hermitage and on 67th Street, while desserts, artisan crafts, and drinks will be available in the park and nearby streets. Only vendors from Mérida are participating.
