Real estate project in Yucatán shut down due to damage to coastal dune; irregular permits alleged

Municipal authorities in Yobaín shut down a real estate project on the Chabihau–San Crisanto highway for lacking permits and causing damage to the coastal dune.

Municipal officials documented the existence of construction work without authorization for building and land use.

The case revealed new allegations of irregular permit management networks in the coastal area, a situation that has also occurred in the ports of Sisal, Celestún, and Progreso.

However, the project manager, Georgina Cuaik, stated that the mayor of Sinanché, Abigail Palma Bacelis, granted her permits for the real estate development, even though the land is located within the municipality of Yobaín.

She indicated that the mayor charged for the permit despite knowing the territorial boundary.

Therefore, Yobaín authorities went to the property to place closure seals and inform those responsible about the irregularities.

It should be noted that the property is part of a complex where, according to the information obtained, the developers seek to build condominiums and close public access to the coast.
