Nearly $10 billion pesos will be allocated between 2025 and 2027 to water infrastructure, irrigation, and aqueducts, benefiting 43 municipalities in the state.

Nearly $10 billion pesos will be invested in Tamaulipas between 2025 and 2027 to strengthen and modernize the state’s water infrastructure, an unprecedented figure authorized by the federal government headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

These resources will allow for the development of strategic projects to ensure water supply, update irrigation systems, and optimize water resource management in all 43 municipalities.

The Secretary of Water Resources for Social Development, Raúl Quiroga Álvarez, explained that approximately $7.3 billion pesos will be invested in Irrigation Districts 025 and 026 alone, located in the northern part of the state, representing the highest investment ever recorded for Tamaulipas’ agricultural sector.

This amount is in addition to 1.8 billion pesos allocated for the construction of the second line of the Guadalupe Victoria aqueduct, a project that will guarantee the supply of drinking water for Ciudad Victoria and address a long-standing demand from the capital’s population.

The official explained that tripartite projects will also be carried out between Conagua (National Water Commission), the Government of Tamaulipas—led by Américo Villarreal Anaya—and irrigation users, with an investment of 300 million pesos.

He also noted that the rehabilitation of the Nuevo Laredo International Wastewater Treatment Plant continues to progress, a project of nearly 100 million dollars, resulting from an agreement signed in 2023 between the IBWC (International Boundary and Water Commission), NADBank, Conagua, and state and municipal authorities.
