The Municipal Government of González, led by Dr. Miguel Alejandro Zúñiga Rodríguez, officially launched the 2025 Sunflower Season at an event that solidifies the municipality’s position as a key destination for rural tourism in the state.
The ceremony took place at the iconic Rancho Betty, home to the impressive sunflower fields that, with the majestic silhouette of Cerro del Bernal as a backdrop, have become one of the most photographed images in Tamaulipas.
Representing the Governor of the State, Dr. Américo Villarreal Anaya, was the Secretary of Tourism of Tamaulipas, Benjamín Hernández, who reiterated the State Government’s commitment to joining forces and promoting attractions that strengthen the local and regional economy.
Mrs. Betty Helen Nadolph, owner and producer of the sunflower fields, was the first to speak, expressing her deep gratitude to the Municipal Government. “I want to thank all the authorities who are with us today… Thank you, Miguel, for all your support. You are the first mayor to pay attention to the sunflowers. Thank you for all your support,” Nadolph stated, highlighting the mayor’s vision.
The promotional work carried out by the Municipal Government resulted in an increase of nearly 300% in visitors in 2024 compared to 2023, rising from 25,000 to 70,000 visitors during the season.
For his part, Dr. Miguel Alejandro Zúñiga Rodríguez, Mayor of González, emphasized the importance of the season not only as a visual attraction but also as an engine of development. “We will continue to promote González as a tourist destination. It is the birthplace of Tamaulipas’ history… It is not only the heart of our state because of its location, but also because of the warmth of its people and the diversity of its tourist offerings.”
The mayor expressed optimism regarding the economic impact, stating that the main objective is “to strengthen tourism and enhance the tools available, putting our municipality on the map in Tamaulipas and throughout Mexico.” More than 70,000 visitors are expected during the season.
The mayor concluded by inviting all visitors to enjoy the unique experience that González offers: “Enjoy this wonderful municipality, breathe the clean, fresh air, the air that renews your energy to keep going. Take lots of pictures and continue to proudly show off this picture-perfect scene we have here in González: Rancho Betty and its fabulous sunflowers. Long live González and long live Tamaulipas!”
The 2025 Sunflower Season is officially open, offering tourists and locals the opportunity to admire the natural beauty of the González countryside, enjoy the local cuisine, and experience the hospitality of its people.
