This morning, Tuesday, December 9th, a couple experienced a terrifying ordeal on the Mexico-Cuernavaca federal highway. At kilometer 55, between Coajomulco and Los Columpios (Tres Marías), an armed group blocked their path with a white pickup truck.
A video captured by the vehicle’s dashcam shows the exact moment: the white pickup truck abruptly cuts across the road, blocking the highway. Between three and five hooded men, dressed in black and armed with pistols, immediately get out, pointing them directly at the car while shouting orders to force them to stop.
💨 The driver’s quick reaction saved their lives: he accelerated in reverse, swerved sharply to the left, and managed to escape before the assailants reached the vehicle. Authorities later secured the pickup truck used in the attack, which had been reported stolen in an armed robbery on December 8th.
This is NOT an isolated incident. According to the Morelos State Security Secretariat, 262 cases of express kidnapping were registered in this area alone in 2024. The most affected towns are Tres Marías, Lagunas de Zempoala, and Coajomulco. Criminal groups like “Los Mayas” and “Los Linos” operate by taking advantage of areas without cell phone coverage.
🚗 Their modus operandi: They attack vehicles stopped due to mechanical problems, place rocks or obstacles in the road, use fake checkpoints with cloned patrol cars, and ambush drivers from the wooded hillsides. More than 50 incidents have been reported on social media in 2025 alone.
🔴 The “security strategy” promised by Claudia Sheinbaum and Omar Harfuch continues to fail to deliver results. Assaults, express kidnappings, and robberies with violence have persisted on this highway for years, without an effective response from the authorities. The announced operations arrive late—after the incidents have already occurred—but the insecurity persists day after day.
Meanwhile, families who travel this route remain exposed to constant danger. The question is simple: how long will these promises continue without real action to protect citizens?
