The sale and use of fireworks has been prohibited in Los Cabos to ensure the safety and health of children with autism, pets, and senior citizens who suffer panic attacks from these types of explosions.

Therefore, the Los Cabos Tax Inspection Department is asking citizens to report any fireworks sales to the following numbers: 624 142 37 48 in San José del Cabo and 624 143 51 23 in Cabo San Lucas.

Manuel Barajas Gerardo, head of the Los Cabos Municipal Inspection Department, announced that the fireworks ban in the municipality aims to protect people vulnerable to these types of explosions and prevent accidents resulting from the use of fireworks.

“For this Christmas celebration, no permits were issued for the sale of fireworks, neither on public streets nor in any type of establishment in the municipality. Anyone caught selling this product may be subject to a fine,” he stated.

The penalty will depend on the quantity and type of product, and can reach up to 10,000 pesos, the official stated.

He also reported that, with the exception of hotels that have the corresponding permit from the Ministry of National Defense (DEFENSA) and the approval of the municipal Civil Protection agency, no one else is authorized to hold events with fireworks.

He emphasized that inter-institutional operations will be carried out, comprised of personnel from DEFENSA, the National Guard, Civil Protection, the Tax Inspection office, the Municipal Police, and the State Police, among others.

The patrols will be conducted daily at various points in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, with the objective of verifying compliance with the preventive measure prohibiting fireworks and ensuring that the festivities proceed peacefully, explained Gerardo Barajas.

Finally, he mentioned that the official websites of Civil Protection, Tax Inspection and other municipal departments have telephone numbers available for making complaints, as well as the 911 line, anonymously, in order to prevent the clandestine sale of fireworks.
