This year, Izamal, in the state of Yucatán, will offer national and international tourists tour packages with nighttime experiences to encourage overnight stays in the municipality.
Melissa Puga, mayor of Izamal, stated that this nighttime activation is one of the strategies to be implemented this year with the goal of encouraging visitors to occupy available hotel rooms in the municipality and not just pass through “The Yellow City.”
“We want to activate Izamal at night so that people not only visit, but also stay; this, of course, combined with cultural activities so that people have something to enjoy,” she said. She added that the tour packages will include visits to local archaeological sites and experiences in the outlying communities to promote the local cuisine.
The mayor emphasized that during her administration, Izamal has been promoted as a destination within the state of Yucatán and that partnerships have been forged to improve the promotion of this area. He noted that Carnival will begin on February 12th and the goal is to give it greater reach this year because it’s an event that hasn’t received adequate promotion.
With the aim of positioning Mérida International Airport as a key air hub in southeastern Mexico, the Ministry of Tourism Development (Sefotur) announced that by 2026 they will pursue new routes to Colombia, which will be added to the existing routes to the United States, Canada, Cuba, and Guatemala.
