During her visit to Spain, Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo signed an agreement with the Spanish airline Air Europa to open the Bajío-Madrid route. This took place during her participation in the 2026 Tourism Fair (Fitur).
She explained that this new air link is the result of a commitment signed with Air Europa, through the opening of the Bajío-Madrid route. This will strengthen the state’s international connectivity, boost European tourism, and generate economic benefits for various productive sectors. Although the exact frequencies and dates have not yet been defined, she indicated that the goal is for the flight to begin operating this year.
Establishments that were not complying with the Alcoholic Beverages Law were identified, and she emphasized the importance of this team in carrying out these tasks. “We are very happy; it would be a direct flight. Today we were here with the CEO, and we were talking with them about what’s next for the state, greater connectivity, and this adds to the effort we are making to continue promoting Guanajuato, which is a world-class destination,” she said.
The state governor pointed out that this new air link will strengthen Guanajuato’s international connectivity, as well as boost European tourism and generate economic benefits for various productive sectors of the state.
“It means continuing to strengthen our ties with the world. Today we are here at FITUR with a full agenda, and what we see is that there is a large European market for travel to Guanajuato, and also many visitors from Guanajuato travel here to Europe, particularly to Spain,” she shared.
Air Europa is a Spanish airline founded in 1986, belonging to the Globalia group, headquartered in Madrid, and with a network of national and international routes that positions it as one of the leading operators in connectivity between Europe and Latin America.
The company will announce details regarding flight frequency and exact operating dates in the coming days, with the intention of launching service this year.
Producers in Guanajuato, using their tractors, have once again agreed to block sections of the highway to pressure the government to halt the National Water Law.
According to the latest figures, Guanajuato received 201,283 visitors from Spain, generating an economic impact of over 475 million pesos and solidifying Spain as a priority market for the state’s tourism promotion.
In the commercial sector, between January and September 2025, a total of 91 Guanajuato companies exported goods to Spain from 21 municipalities, with a value exceeding 27.2 million dollars, representing an increase of nearly 61 percent compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, Spanish investment in Guanajuato exceeds $439 million and has generated more than 4,000 direct jobs in strategic sectors such as tourism, financial services, transportation, and infrastructure, strengthening the local economy and ties with the European market.
During her participation in FITUR, the governor added that several investments were finalized during this working visit and will be announced soon. She noted that the European market represents a great opportunity for the state, both due to the interest of foreign visitors in exploring Guanajuato and the flow of Guanajuato residents traveling to Europe.
“And there is a lot of interest in Guanajuato, a lot of interest in continuing to open this market. We managed to finalize some important investments. We will be making the announcements in due course,” she stated.
García Muñoz Ledo indicated that the work agenda included more than 150 business meetings with hotel chains, airlines, tour operators, and travel agencies, with the goal of promoting investment and consolidating Guanajuato as a world-class destination.
