This Friday, a confrontation between security agents and armed individuals in the town of Tayahua, Zacatecas, resulted in one assailant killed and two women injured.

The State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported in a statement that during a patrol on Highway 31, near the municipal landfill, officers from law enforcement agencies at all three levels of government were attacked by armed civilians.

The officers, in repelling the armed attack, killed one assailant; they also seized a rifle and a magazine.

The state agency specified that “two civilian women who were passing through the area were injured as collateral damage.” The women received medical attention and their injuries were not serious, according to the SSP.

The operation involved members of the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ), the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Investigative Police of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGJEZ).

The state Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that no officers were injured in the incident and that the presence of security personnel from all three levels of government was increased in the area. A Black Hawk helicopter was also deployed to conduct aerial patrols.

The Secretary of Government of the state of Zacatecas, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, confirmed the attack against members of the Immediate Reaction Force. He initially stated that one person was injured, but later, in a video, he updated the information, indicating that two women were injured and that the highway had been cleared.
