The weather conditions in the southern United States may affect food supplies in Tampico; supermarkets warned that the storm could reduce their stock of imported goods.

“Dear Customer: Due to the winter storm in the southern United States, the availability of some imported products may be affected. We appreciate your patience and are working to restore normal stock levels. Thank you for your understanding,” stated the HEB store.

The company posted signs in its display areas to inform customers about the reason for unavailable items.

So far, the store has not confirmed which products will be affected; however, the main area where the notices are located is the whole wheat bread section.

According to the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), Mexico imports key basic food items from the United States every year, and these imports may be reduced this time.

It was noted that, in total, from 2015 to 2024, the value of exports is $30 billion, equivalent to more than 523 billion pesos; furthermore, Mexico is the number one agricultural export market for its northern neighbor.
