Foreigner undergoes cosmetic treatment in Puerto Vallarta and suffers severe burns to her face

Jennifer Rae, an American citizen, went to the Advanced Biomedical Center clinic in the Díaz Ordaz neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta last Friday for a non-surgical skin rejuvenation procedure. However, she ended up with burns on her skin, and now the company refuses to take responsibility for the injuries to her face.

Jennifer was drawn to the Advanced Biomedical Center by its advertising. The clinic offers cosmetic treatments including plastic surgery, skin biopsies, intimate cosmetic procedures such as laser vaginal rejuvenation, and skin treatments with a machine called Morpheus8, among others.
On its website, Dr. Daniela Sahagún Flores is listed as one of the directors of the private clinic and as a Master in Aesthetic and Regenerative Medicine, along with her team of collaborators. Among them is Yetzia Lucero M., the official nurse.
It is common knowledge that many foreigners and local residents seek cosmetic treatments, and Jennifer was no exception. She went to Advanced Biomedical Center for non-surgical skin rejuvenation. She was told they would use the Morpheus8 machine to perform the procedure on her face.

However, at the end of the treatment, Jennifer was horrified to see burns all over her face in the mirror. She complained to Dr. Sahagún, but received only negative responses—that the clinic would not take responsibility for what had happened.
On her Facebook page, Jennifer Rae posted a message asking for help from the American community in Puerto Vallarta regarding her experience. She wrote the following verbatim:
“I need help and guidance from the medical community here in Puerto Vallarta. On Friday, I underwent a Morpheus8 treatment at advancedbiomedicalcenter.com, specifically BIOSILUETTE, and suffered severe skin burns. Dr. Daniela Sahagún (the owner) stated that they were not responsible for the normal risks involved, and I waived any recourse on the admission form. Initially, they denied that it was a burn and claimed it was due to an allergic reaction. A plastic surgeon examined the wounds and confirmed they were burn marks from the improper use of the Morpheus machine. After confronting the owner again, she admitted they were burns. She is a general practitioner specializing in aesthetic medicine, and a nurse’s aide performed the procedure while I was under anesthesia, so I didn’t realize the severity of the burn until I woke up. Tomorrow, I have an evaluation with a renowned dermatologist in Puerto Vallarta. Can anyone advise me?” What can I do or where do I start? I was given steroid injections because my eyes swelled up and closed due to the damage at Advanced Biomedical Center.
MORPHEUS8
In a quick internet search about Morpheus8, we found the following on the page https://inmode.com.mx/tecnologias/morpheus8/
How does it work?

Morpheus8 is the world’s first and only device that targets the subdermal tissue of the body and face to treat cellulite and localized fat, as well as to transform aging features and achieve a more youthful appearance. It is a fractional radiofrequency device that penetrates to a depth of 7 millimeters with an additional thermal profile of 1 millimeter and a programmable energy level. Morpheus8 has four interchangeable microneedle applicators, each with a different head for treating various facial and body areas: 12 pins, 24 fixed pins at 0.5 mm for resurfacing action, and 40 gold-coated Teflon pins that penetrate the subdermal tissue, coagulating fat and tightening connective tissue. Simultaneously, the RF energy generates subnecrotic heating of the dermis. It is a minimally invasive, safe, and highly effective treatment with immediate and visible results from the first session. When used in conjunction with FaceTite, Morpheus8 is a perfect alternative for patients with laxity and irregularities in the skin’s surface. With this combination, we achieve immediate results and progressive improvement over time.” That’s what the website says.
The question now is whether there was medical negligence at Dr. Sahagún’s clinic for allegedly leaving the aesthetic treatment in the hands of a nurse, whether there was misuse of the Morpheus8 machine, or whether Jennifer’s burns are the result of an allergy. Of course, the Commission for Health Risks is obligated to conduct the corresponding investigation.
