An armed group stormed a home in Mexicali, Baja California, to rob, beat, and even mutilate the ears of four people inside.
The attack occurred shortly after dawn on Thursday, February 19, in the Villa Florida neighborhood of the border city.
According to local press reports, the group consisted of eight men who forced the victims to lie on the floor. They then stole their money and cell phones before cutting off one of each victim’s ears with a knife—apparently using different methods.
Afterward, the group left the scene, and the injured victims reportedly called the Red Cross, whose paramedics transported them to the local General Hospital. Another version indicates that they allegedly went to the hospital on their own.
According to police information leaked to the press, the victims are Andrés, 42, who suffered a wound to his right ear; José, 41, was injured in the left ear; Enrique, 35, apparently had his right ear completely severed; and Víctor, 36, whose injuries were not specified.
Despite this, the victims did not provide further details about the incident.
According to information obtained by journalist Eduardo Villa of Semanario Zeta, the assailants apparently told the men, “Ah, but you wanted to sell in bulk.”
In the slang of organized crime, this would refer to a possible sale without the approval of the local criminal group.
