On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, an intense hailstorm struck Puebla, the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, and Veracruz, blanketing paths and structures in white. Residents are urged to drive with caution.
Cold Front number 41 is responsible for the heavy rain that day. Moderate rainfall is also being reported in various parts of Mexico City, but it is expected to intensify throughout the day.
The Cantona Archaeological Zone in Puebla was covered in white. The most striking sight was the landscape at the Cantona Archaeological Zone, where paths and buildings were blanketed in white, creating a stark contrast with the surrounding vegetation.
Meanwhile, a similar event occurred in Ecatepec de Morelos, State of Mexico, where streets, cars, and houses were covered in hail, a scene captured by residents.
The hailstorm also caused the roof of a warehouse to collapse in the San Carlos neighborhood of Ecatepec. The same occurred with the roof of the Luis G. Urbina elementary school.
The streets that turned white in Ecatepec were Toluca Avenue, which runs through the community, and Tlalnepantla Street.
Meanwhile, in Cuautitlán Izcalli, residents were also alerted to hail that blanketed streets and houses in white, in addition to the intense rain in the area. They were asked to stay informed of official announcements to stay updated on the emergency status.
In Hidalgo, a severe hailstorm was reported in Emiliano Zapata, prompting the municipal Civil Protection agency to urge residents to drive with caution to avoid accidents.
Furthermore, hail was observed in Tizayuca, causing flooding on roads, streets, and paths.
In Veracruz, hail also fell, painting the Cofre de Perote volcano in vibrant colors and creating a striking scene of trees blanketed in white.
So far, no loss of life has been reported; however, this could change as the hours pass. Therefore, it is important to heed the recommendations of Mexico’s Civil Protection authorities.
