Nayarit plans to install security checkpoints at the entrance to Banderas Bay from Puerto Vallarta

The governor of Nayarit, Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, announced that he is considering installing detection arches on the border between Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, to prevent the entry of weapons, explosives, and other devices that could jeopardize security in the state.

These security arches are also being considered for the border area with Sinaloa, because, as he explained, movements of criminal cells seeking to dispute territory within Nayarit have been detected from both states, primarily in the northern region, in municipalities such as Tecuala and Huajicori.

Weapons and explosive devices, which allegedly entered through the state borders, have been seized in these regions, reinforcing the need to implement these security checkpoints.

“We need to purchase archways at the entrances to Nayarit. We must purchase archways for people coming from both the south and the north, as they could help us detect weapons or other devices that threaten security,” he stated.

The proposal is part of a strategy to contain and prevent violence, taking into account Nayarit’s geographic location, which positions it as a strategic point between areas where criminal disputes have occurred. The goal is to prevent these conflicts from spreading into the interior of the state.

This announcement was made during the launch of the 2026 Holy Week and Easter operation, which also included the announcement of the donation of land in Huajicori to the Federal Government for the construction of a National Guard barracks, in order to reinforce the presence of security forces in the region.
