An armed confrontation between civilians and municipal police in Huimanguillo, Tabasco, left two assailants dead early Monday morning, March 30.
The incident occurred at kilometer 15, near the Tierra Nueva 4th Section Ejido, where officers were responding to a report of gunfire.
The Tabasco Security Cabinet reported that the officers were conducting patrols when they were directly attacked by a group of armed civilians.
The police returned fire, sparking a shootout in the area.
Authorities reported that the armed attack resulted in the deaths of two assailants, who have not yet been identified. An official patrol vehicle sustained damage from gunfire.

Following the confrontation, authorities seized firearms and motorcycles, which were turned over to the appropriate judicial authorities for the start of the investigation.
Security personnel from all three levels of government were deployed to the area to control the situation and ensure the safety of families.
In a separate operation in the municipality of Centro, members of the Tabasco State Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Olmeca Interinstitutional Tactical Reaction Force (FIRT) seized weapons, tactical equipment, and more than 25 packages of cocaine.
The discovery of an abandoned vehicle in the STAIUJAT housing development prompted authorities to conduct a preventive inspection of the vehicle.
During the inspection of a blue Nissan Versa with Chiapas license plates, agents located 27 packages of a substance resembling cocaine. They also found bags and doses of a white powder believed to be crystal meth, as well as bundles of dried herbs consistent with marijuana.
The operation included the seizure of firearms restricted to military use, including an AK-47 rifle, other long guns, shotguns, and ammunition. Additionally, the confiscated tactical equipment consisted of vests, a helmet, and ballistic plates.
The vehicle and all the seized materials were placed in the custody of authorities pending further investigation. No arrests have been reported in connection with the case.
Authorities stated that the operation resulted from routine patrols in the area.
The SSPC and FIRT Olmeca expressed their intention to strengthen coordination to combat crime in Tabasco, and reaffirmed their commitment to maintain vigilance to prevent drug and weapons-related crimes.
