Here’s Michoacán-style carnitas with pickled chiles! The Michoacán Festival at Los Pinos brings together traditional cuisine, crafts, and music from the western Mexican state of Michoacán for a weekend in Mexico City.
The program also includes the sale of regional products made by artisans from different regions of Michoacán at the cultural center located in Chapultepec Park.
The Michoacán Festival at Los Pinos will take place on April 11 and 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The activities are held in different areas of the center, including Plaza Jacarandas, the Cencalli Rooftop Terrace, and the Smoke Kitchens, where the culinary offerings and regional products are concentrated.
According to the official statement, the festival is part of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, a strategy that seeks to promote marketing channels for producers and artisans, as well as disseminate cultural practices passed down through generations.
Claudia Curiel de Icaza, Secretary of Culture for the Government of Mexico, stated that the event aims to bring urban audiences closer to Michoacán’s cultural expressions: “Bringing together crafts, traditional cuisine, and music at Los Pinos is also a way to recognize the communities that carry on this knowledge and to continue building links between culture, well-being, and social cohesion, in order to advance the objectives of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice.”
One of the main focuses of the event is traditional Michoacán cuisine, with a selection of dishes prepared by cooks connected to regional traditions.
At Cencalli’s Smoke Kitchens, you’ll find dishes like:
Pork spine in guajillo sauce
Shredded dried beef
Toqueres (a type of tamale)
Sesame seed brittle with molasses, originally from Huetamo
Michoacán-style carnitas from Morelia, a long-standing regional tradition
In addition, you can find other typical dishes and snacks such as:
Quesadillas
Chorizo and cheese tacos
Spicy meat
Huetamo chorizo
Churipo (a type of sausage)
Buñuelos (fritters)
Mole (a type of mole)
Uchepos (a type of tamale) from Morelia
There’s also a wide variety of traditional tamales, including:
Swiss chard tamales
Red chile tamales with pork
Green tamales with chicken
Sweet tamales
The culinary offerings also include quesadillas from Santa Ana Maya, as well as sweets and beverages from different regions of the state.
The Michoacán Festival at Los Pinos also includes a space dedicated to regional products and handicrafts made by Michoacán communities.
In Plaza Jacarandas, stalls are set up with products such as:
Eggnog
Potato and lime powder
Handicrafts from Sahuayo, like bags
Copper pieces from Salvador Escalante
Glazed pottery from Tangancícuaro
Ice cream from Tacámbaro
Pottery from Tzintzuntzan
Meanwhile, at the Cencalli Pavilion, producers are showcasing food and goods made in the state, including:

Cosmetics made with avocado oil

Regional sweets
Chongos zamoranos (a type of sweet bread)
Preserved fruits

“The Michoacán products presented at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex reflect quality and productive capacity, open markets, and are a strategic engine of development for our communities,” he noted. Claudio Méndez Fernández, Secretary of Economic Development of Michoacán.
The festival also includes artistic performances that are part of the state’s cultural tradition.
Among the participants are Los Tlahualiles de Sahuayo, one of the region’s most representative dances, which recreates the symbolic struggle between paganism and religion.
The program also includes the Ballet Folklórico del Estado de Michoacán, a group with a history dating back to 1958.
Also performing is the Dueto Sïrankua, dedicated to the interpretation and preservation of traditional Purépecha music, especially the genre known as pirekua.
