The holiday period saw an influx of 2.5 million visitors in its first week, with no major incidents reported on highways, roads, and state routes, across the transportation network that crosses the state of San Luis Potosí.
This was reported by the head of the State Civil Protection Coordination, Mauricio Ordaz Flores, who explained that the influx has been concentrated mainly in tourist destinations in the Huasteca region, where natural areas and recreational centers have been operating at high demand, particularly over the weekend, when several locations reached maximum capacity.
He indicated that the drowning deaths recorded during this period have occurred on private properties, such as ranches or communal lands, “where owners allow access to bodies of water without providing permanent supervision or the presence of emergency services.”
The state official assured that, although at least one unfortunate incident has occurred in these types of areas, the holiday safety operation has maintained positive results in the main tourist destinations, preventing drowning incidents in natural areas and sites with high concentrations of visitors.
He also detailed that municipalities such as Tamasopo, El Naranjo, and Rioverde, as well as Ciudad Valles and Aquismón, are currently attracting the largest number of tourists from different regions of the country and abroad, due to their natural spas and seasonal attractions.
Finally, Ordaz Flores warned that, with a week still remaining in the holiday period, a continued influx of visitors is expected in the coming days, “therefore, the operation remains active with a presence on highways, in tourist areas, and at gathering points, which has helped to prevent accidents and incidents on both the state road network and the federal highways that cross the state.”
