The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, announced that the “Rizo de Oro” bridge over the La Angostura dam in Chiapas should be completed by June 2026, and traffic between the municipalities of La Concordia and Chicomuselo is expected to resume in September.
During a press conference with Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, he explained that significant progress has been made in the construction of this transportation route, which will connect several municipalities and regions of Chiapas, such as the Frailesca, Sierra, and Frontera regions.
The construction of the Rizo de Oro bridge is well underway. Its design is a “mixed arch” structure, and it is expected to benefit approximately 300,000 people in 10 municipalities, connecting 21 communities in the region and reducing travel times.
The financing for this project at Chiapas’ largest dam is part of the federal government’s overall budget for communications and transportation this year, totaling 315.331 billion pesos. This bridge is one of 78 being built nationwide.
According to the Ministry of Communications, Transportation and Infrastructure (SICT), the Rizo de Oro bridge will have a total length of 2.1 kilometers, with 405 meters comprising the main bridge and a 1.7-kilometer access road. It will be the second bridge, along with the La Concordia bridge, spanning the waters of the Belisario Domínguez Hydroelectric Plant.
On its website, the SICT reports that the investment in the bridge’s construction is 1.832 billion pesos, and it will improve connectivity in municipalities such as La Concordia, Chicomuselo, Villa Corzo, Ángel Albino Corzo, Montecristo de Guerrero, Socoltenango, El Parral, Nicolás Ruiz, Capitán Luis Ángel Vidal, and Tzimol.
