After celebrating Holy Week in the capital, the Sexual Diversity Festival and the International Folklore Festival will continue the state’s cultural agenda, with events taking place from June 29 to July 4 and from July 26 to August 2, respectively.

The director of the Zacatecas Institute of Culture (IZC), María de Jesús Muñoz Reyes, explained that proposals for both festivals are already under review, and the selection will be determined by the objectives and vision of each festival.

For the Sexual Diversity Festival, she stated, “many proposals are received from Zacatecan artists,” which are analyzed for their suitability and, if selected, “adapted in terms of budget and content.”

Regarding the Folklore Festival, the state official explained that the institute has begun sending invitations to other countries to give groups time to arrange their travel to Zacatecas: “Here, as hosts, we cover lodging and meals.”

The budget for this 29th edition of the folklore festival, he noted, is expected to be higher than that of 2025, when the event was held with 5 million pesos; this year, he added, between five and six international groups will participate.

Muñoz Reyes also confirmed that the Jazz and Blues Festival will be held in the summer, since in the fall/winter it overlaps with the Day of the Dead and Christmas festivals. “We want to give it its own space; in November it was too crowded with these other festivals, although there are activities throughout the year,” he explained.

He added that the schedule of festivities also includes other important projects for cultural life in Zacatecas, such as the Lopezvelardean Days, for which “the winner of the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks.”
