The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is evaluating 94 of the 244 projects submitted by the private sector to build renewable energy power plants. Key criteria for the evaluation will be the permits held by the companies.
The CFE has selected 11 of the 22 projects submitted by private companies to build plants in Coahuila and the Yucatán Peninsula to meet the needs of the state-owned company, stated Arturo Carranza, an energy specialist. Meanwhile, of the 222 projects submitted by the private sector for renewable energy plants in the rest of the country, it is currently evaluating 83, he added in an interview.
“On April 7, the CFE confirmed to the companies its interest in participating in 11 of its own projects, including Concepción Mendizábal in Coahuila, which is divided into three phases, as well as others on the Yucatán Peninsula. This means that the CFE has sent them confirmation to move forward with negotiations.”
“The site visit process should have already taken place and is currently in the stage of clarifying doubts and making modifications. CFE has already shared more information so that companies can refine their bids. The next step is to provide a performance bond, that is, a letter of credit, and then the submission of proposals,” explained Carranza.
Of the 222 projects submitted by the private sector for power plants in balancing zones, CFE approved 83 for evaluation. The criteria used for selection are related to the permits they hold, such as generation permits, the Environmental Impact Statement, the clearly defined land area, and the fact that the necessary rights have been secured.
