Because Pemex awarded mixed contracts to operators, oil sector activities are being reactivated in southern Tamaulipas, specifically in Altamira.

The operating company, Consorcio Petrolero 5M del Golfo, won the contract for the Tamaulipas-Constituciones field and began recruiting personnel and supply chain services this week. On Monday, April 20, it was observed that well brokers, welders, and general laborers were being sought.

What activities will take place in the Tamaulipas-Constituciones field?

The Tamaulipas-Constituciones field is located onshore within the Tampico-Misantla Basin, covers an area of 101.8 square kilometers, and has total reserves of 125 million barrels of heavy oil and 144 million cubic feet of natural gas.

The Secretary of Energy Development for Tamaulipas, Walter Julian Ángel Jiménez, explained that oil and gas exploration activities will be carried out in the Tamaulipas-Constituciones field.

“Consorcio Petrolero 5M del Golfo is a company with a long history in Mexico that intends to strengthen the state’s oil production base,” he stated.

He added that the hiring of personnel is an indicator that they will begin soon, because it is a closed well: “These are fields that already existed and currently need to be reactivated. Apparently, they conducted a study and were able to determine that it was profitable based on Pemex’s indicators.”

75% of the natural gas used in Mexico comes from Texas: Tamaulipas could reverse this situation.

He mentioned that they are already contracting Tamaulipas companies to support the operation of the field, in addition to all the associated services related to supplies and inputs.

“We are seeking to contract local companies, showing them the opportunities that the state offers,” he indicated.

It’s worth noting that Pemex will hold an 80% stake in this contract, after receiving a bonus of $5.15 million.

Walter Julian Ángel Jiménez mentioned that, like those located in the northern part of the state, in the Burgos Basin, Pemex has required this field to increase its production floor.

“For example, in the Misiones field, we know they’re going to open another bidding round to incorporate more companies, because production has fallen considerably due to a lack of exploration and the profitability conditions for the companies,” he concluded.
