After more than 24 hours of blocking the road, protesters demanding the safe return of three missing men agreed to reopen the highway connecting Cintalapa and Ocozocoautla, at the intersection known as Las Jotas.

The decision was made after a dialogue with the Undersecretary of the Interior, Jorge Enrique Hernández Bielma, who arrived at the scene accompanied by representatives of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Regional Government Delegate for the Valle Region, Andrés Constantino, and the mayor, Blanca Yaneth Chiu.

During the meeting, relatives of Cristhian Alexis Martínez Martínez, Moisés Iván Ovando Valencia, and Víctor Manuel Caballero, who have been missing for nine days, reiterated their demand for intensified search efforts and close follow-up on the lines of investigation by the Attorney General’s Office.

Among their demands, they also requested the withdrawal of the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force from the municipality, considering a restructuring of security and search operations necessary.

As part of the agreements reached, Undersecretary Hernández Bielma established communication with the General Secretariat of Government and Mediation to facilitate the withdrawal of the Unified Command and the so-called “Pakales” from the area.

Subsequently, family members, protesters, and authorities moved to the Municipal Hall, where a memorandum of understanding was signed, resolving the conflict. Simultaneously, another group of protesters began removing tires, rocks, and other objects placed on the highway, thus restoring free vehicular traffic.

With the road reopened, traffic has returned to normal on this important stretch of highway; however, the families warned that they will remain vigilant to ensure compliance with the commitments and to monitor progress in the search for Cristhian Alexis Martínez Martínez, Moisés Iván Ovando Valencia, and Víctor Manuel Caballero, whose disappearance has gripped the residents of Jiquipilas.
