As part of federal security efforts in Sinaloa, the construction of two National Guard bases is planned for Mazatlán. These bases will house 400 personnel and aim to strengthen the force’s presence in both urban and rural areas.
Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez announced this on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, after a meeting she held in her office with José Francisco González of the National Guard to reinforce community policing efforts in the port city.
“He was sent by his general, the regional commander, Julises (Julián González, coordinator of the National Guard in Sinaloa). What we are seeking is to establish military bases for the National Guard, one at the entrance to Mazatlán, one to the north and one to the south. I want to mention that the southern base is further along in the process. It consists of 6.5 hectares of land donated by local business owners, and construction of the base is already underway.”
The mayor stated that the base on the northern outskirts of the city will be built on land owned by the State Government, which is still being evaluated. She anticipates that both National Guard companies could be operational in the municipality within a maximum of eight months.
She emphasized that one base will be located near the El Venadillo ejido, on the northern outskirts, and the other near the El Castillo ejido, on the southern outskirts.
Who will invest in the construction of the National Guard bases?
Palacios Domínguez indicated that the investment for the construction of the National Guard bases in Mazatlán, which will house Companies 514 and 515, will come from the government of Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, as part of the National Public Security Strategy.
“That is very good news for the people of Mazatlán, because having two new military bases reflects the support of our President of the Republic, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum, to the State, to Sinaloa and particularly to the municipality of Mazatlán.”
