The Executive Branch of the State of Campeche will have to modify the requested loan amount, as proposed by the “dissident” Morena party deputies, after the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) rejected the loan request for one billion pesos for public works.
In this regard, the president of the Legislative Branch, proportional representation deputy José Antonio Jiménez Gutiérrez, indicated that they are now awaiting information from the Executive Branch to submit the corresponding request, as ordered by the Ministry of Finance, which will then issue its approval.
All loan requests must be analyzed, as the consequences should be minimized by considering the loan amount, the repayment term, and other adjustments, in addition to any possible modifications.
Furthermore, despite the official narrative that the state’s finances are sound, the bank from which the Ministry of Administration and Finance had requested the line of credit rejected the first round of documents and background information explaining the reason for and the repayment term.
Jiménez Gutiérrez said a meeting is expected soon with the state legal counsel and with Governor Layda Sansores or the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Rafael Castilla Azar, to explore options for adjusting the loan amount, repayment terms, and budget modifications.
Other austerity measures and revenue-generating strategies must be prioritized before requesting a loan, especially if deficits are observed in other areas that could jeopardize the budgets for the next 20 years.
