The city of Querétaro is preparing for a historic day on Saturday, June 13th, as the 10th LGBT+ Pride and Dignity March takes to the streets of the Historic Center to commemorate a decade of struggle, visibility, and the demand for rights. Under the slogan “A Decade of Struggle for Equality, a Decade of Pride and Dignity,” this year’s event promises a close encounter with the community, as the organizing committee has chosen to feature local artistic talent to lead the closing activities, ensuring the celebration feels like a genuine expression of Querétaro’s identity.
This tenth anniversary represents much more than a number; it symbolizes the constant effort of a community that has fought to gain space in the public sphere and transform social perceptions of sexual diversity. The movement has grown steadily over the past ten years and has become an essential point of reference for thousands of people who seek to raise their voices and celebrate who they are with complete freedom.
The official program will kick off at 12:00 PM in the Jardín Guerrero, the venue for the traditional “LGBT+ Market.” This space will be the heart of the day, as in addition to promoting local businesses, the organizing committee confirmed the presence of essential health services. Both at the market and at the closing event, rapid HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis C tests will be offered. Furthermore, informational talks and social commentary will be integrated between each artistic performance, transforming the event into a forum for prevention and awareness where information and activism intertwine to educate and inform the public.
For this year’s event, the march will include a total of nine groups comprised of pedestrians and vehicles. Organization will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the official start of the march at 5:00 p.m. The route has become iconic for those who attend year after year. It will begin on the Francisco I. Madero pedestrian walkway, then turn onto Ignacio Allende Norte Street and head towards Avenida Universidad. After crossing Corregidora Street and continuing along Avenida Ignacio Zaragoza, the group will turn onto Manuel Acuña Street, culminating in Plaza Fundadores. There, at 7:00 p.m., the closing ceremony will begin, marking the end of this great celebration of unity.
The importance of this march lies in the visibility it gives to pending human rights demands. Walking through the city’s busiest streets serves as a reminder to society and authorities that the struggle is not over. This march stands as a platform for expression where respect and empathy act as fundamental pillars, transforming the Historic Center into a stage of diversity, color, and political message. Beyond the celebration, the organizers’ invitation is clear: to join this exercise in respect, because, after ten years of tireless work, dignity continues to be the driving force behind this struggle in our country.
