For being too clever, three police officers from Ecatepec earn 50 years in prison

In the usually safe and peaceful Ecatepec, where the laws are merely suggestions, three uniformed officers proved that their true calling wasn’t protecting the public, but rather squeezing money out of them.

Eduardo Aguilar de los Santos, Erick Guardado Moreno, and Valeria Gómez Silva decided their salaries weren’t enough and started their own express kidnapping operation. On October 12, 2023, these three “angels” picked up a citizen in their patrol car, telling him he was under arrest, when in reality they were kidnapping him, uniform and all.

During the scenic drive through the municipality’s beautiful, potholed streets, they stole the poor victim’s cell phone. With sheer cunning, they called the family and demanded the not-insignificant sum of 50,000 pesos in exchange for not taking him to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

And since technology waits for no one, one of these law enforcement officers used his accounting skills to make a direct transfer from the kidnapped man’s banking app. In the end, they dumped the citizen in the Polígonos neighborhood, leaving him lying in the street.

But their smug little smiles vanished completely.

The State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office got to work, launched an investigation, and they were caught red-handed. A judge based in Ecatepec reviewed the evidence and sent them to prison without delay. Now, Eduardo, Erick, and Valeria have a 50-year sentence to pay for in the local prison, in addition to losing all their civil rights. Let’s see who they extort from their new, cramped cell with bars.

If you were also a client of these exemplary public servants, the Attorney General’s Office invites you to report them. Send an email to [email protected], call 800 7028770, or download the FGJEdomex app. Don’t stay silent and help keep these guys locked up until they get old.
