A series of earthquakes recorded between June 11 and June 12 drew the attention of residents in northwestern Mexico. Reports from the National Seismological Service (SSN) show seismic activity in different areas of Baja California and Baja California Sur.
Five Earthquakes Recorded Today, June 12, 2026, in Baja California
During the early hours of June 12, the SSN recorded several earthquakes in Baja California. These included:
- Magnitude 3.0 east of Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada
- Magnitude 3.2 north of Vicente Guerrero
- Magnitude 3.3 west of San Felipe
- Magnitude 3.4 northeast of Lázaro Cárdenas
None of these events caused reported damage or disruptions.
Earthquakes Recorded During the Last 24 Hours in Baja California
Seismic activity had already been occurring since June 11. Among the most notable earthquakes were:
- Magnitude 3.4 northeast of Ensenada
- Magnitude 3.7 southwest of San Felipe
- Magnitude 3.7 southeast of San Felipe
- Magnitude 3.6 southwest of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora
- Several earthquakes ranging from magnitudes 2.7 to 3.4 near San Felipe and Vicente Guerrero
Strongest Earthquake on June 12, 2026, Near Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur
The strongest earthquake reported in the region occurred at 3:17 a.m. on June 12, when the SSN detected a magnitude 4.3 earthquake located 73 kilometers northeast of Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur, at a depth of 11.6 kilometers.
Why Are So Many Earthquakes Occurring in Baja California?
According to Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) and the National Seismological Service (SSN), Baja California is located in an area where the Pacific and North American tectonic plates interact. These plates constantly release energy through earthquakes of varying magnitudes.
Authorities emphasize that there is currently no scientific method capable of predicting whether a series of earthquakes will lead to a larger event. As a result, each earthquake must be analyzed independently.
