The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported the seizure of various objects, including sledgehammers, from members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), who were mobilizing this morning in the city toward Mexico City Stadium.
The capital’s security agency explained that, as part of preventive actions, officers inspected two vehicles in Tlalpan, near Avenida del Imán, carrying individuals headed to the protest.
During the operation, officers discovered a vehicle trunk containing objects that were subsequently confiscated. The seized items included:
- Two sledgehammers
- One metal crowbar
- Several firecrackers
- Wooden sticks
- Metal pipes
The seized objects were found inside a vehicle trunk
The SSC also clarified that no cell phones were taken from the protesters and that the entire inspection process was documented.
The CNTE demonstration is taking place in connection with the match between Colombia and Uzbekistan, scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Mexico City Stadium.
On June 11, the date of the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the same venue in Santa Úrsula, teachers carried out a demonstration near the stadium. They have also maintained a protest camp in the downtown area of the capital for several weeks, causing dissatisfaction among local merchants and workers.

Previous Operations Had Already Resulted in Seizures
On June 8, more than 50 explosive devices were confiscated during inspections of buses carrying student teachers from Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, who were traveling to strengthen the CNTE protest.
The discovery occurred after security personnel from Mexico City implemented an inspection operation on buses transporting the demonstrators, which were stopped on the Mexico City–Cuernavaca Highway.
During that operation, authorities found and seized 59 homemade explosive devices, which were turned over to the specialized Zorros unit for safekeeping.
