The Campeche State Health Department reported that seven cases of myiasis have been confirmed in the state so far; however, this number could rise to 11 once epidemiological week 26 concludes.
The department head, Orlando Alvarado Rivadeneyra, explained that the data is still being validated, so some cases remain suspected until official confirmation is received. He specified that the cases are distributed across various municipalities, including Candelaria, Escárcega, Calkiní, and Campeche, where health surveillance is ongoing to detect any new cases.
He urged the public to reinforce hygiene measures and seek medical attention for any wounds or injuries, reminding them that myiasis is an infestation caused by fly larvae in living tissue, making timely treatment essential to prevent complications.
