The Mexican National Team’s qualification for the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup once again sparked massive celebrations in various cities across the country. However, in several locations, the celebrations ceased to be mere expressions of joy and turned into situations that endangered participants and bystanders.
In Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, a video circulating on social media shows dozens of people surrounding a semi-truck and pushing it from side to side in the middle of a public street, while shouting, cheering, and playing music to celebrate El Tri’s victory over Ecuador.

The images generated concern due to the risk involved in moving a large cargo truck in an environment with dozens of people around.
The situation didn’t end there, as the crowd also surrounded a municipal police patrol car, which they similarly moved with force, seemingly unconcerned that it was an authority figure, demonstrating once again how passion dangerously overflowed.
In the same context of the celebrations, also in Puerto Escondido, another video circulating on social media shows a group of people surrounding and moving a white car as it drove through the crowd.
During the recording, a man wearing a white t-shirt and a black cap, hidden among the attendees, throws a bottle at the car’s windshield, shattering the glass.
This action created a moment of heightened danger, as fragments of the windshield were propelled toward people standing just meters away from the car, exposing them to potential injuries.
The images also show that the vehicle was surrounded by dozens of people, a situation that hampered the movement of both the driver and those participating in the celebration.
This new video reinforced criticism on social media regarding the risky behavior observed during the celebrations for the Mexican National Team’s victory, pointing out that these types of actions can lead to accidents with serious consequences for participants and bystanders.
The scene drew attention because it replicates a practice that has become common during sports celebrations: surrounding vehicles and shaking them as a display of euphoria.
However, this type of action has proven to have potentially serious consequences. Days earlier, in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, a similar incident ended in tragedy when a driver, allegedly surrounded by a group of fans, accelerated his vehicle, ran over several people, and was subsequently attacked by the crowd. He later died while receiving medical attention.
Although both incidents occurred in different contexts, experts have warned that these spontaneous gatherings increase the risk of accidents, panic, and acts of violence.
The video recorded in Puerto Escondido quickly went viral and provoked mixed reactions.
While some users described the scene as a demonstration of the passion the Mexican National Team inspires, others questioned the normalization of this type of behavior despite the danger it poses to participants and motorists trapped in the crowds.
Sporting celebrations often bring together thousands of people in public spaces; however, when the euphoria leads to actions that compromise safety, the festive atmosphere can transform into an emergency situation.
Ultimately, the events following Mexico’s victory reopen the debate about the need to strengthen a culture of prevention, respect for public space, and timely action by authorities to prevent celebrations from ending in tragedy.
