The discovery of a man and a woman with signs of violence on the border between Zacatelco and San Miguel Xoxtla has raised the number of victims found in the border region to 32 in the last year.

The discovery of the bodies of a man and a woman with signs of violence on the banks of the Atoyac River, between Zacatelco, Tlaxcala, and San Miguel Xoxtla, Puebla, adds to a string of cases registered in the border region between the two states, where at least 32 people have been found dead between July 2025 and July 2026.

Residents of the Rural neighborhood reported two bundles wrapped in blankets and plastic. After a georeferenced review, authorities determined that the site of the discovery corresponds to Puebla, and the Puebla State Attorney General’s Office has taken over the investigation.

The border region between Puebla and Tlaxcala has seen several discoveries of bodies over the past twelve months. In late March 2026, the Attorney General of Tlaxcala, Ernestina Carro Roldán, reported that 15 human remains had been found that year in areas bordering Puebla, classified as “discovery sites,” as she maintained that the crimes were committed outside of Tlaxcala territory.

Among the most impactful cases documented in this region are the discovery of six human heads on the Ixtacuixtla-Atotonilco highway in August 2025; the murder of two teenagers found in Nativitas in September 2025; and the remains of five men abandoned between San Pablo Zitlaltepec and Nopalucan in December 2025. as well as the femicide of a mother and her two daughters found in Altzayanca in March 2026.

Also included is the case of Blanca Adriana Vázquez Montiel, whose body was found in Altzayanca after she allegedly visited a clandestine cosmetic surgery clinic in Puebla, in addition to the discovery, in June 2026, of a young man’s body wrapped in a bag next to the Arco Norte highway, on the border between Tepetitla and San Martín Texmelucan.

Although authorities in Puebla and Tlaxcala have announced the reinforcement of surveillance and coordination operations in the border area, the discovery of bodies continues to be reported in this shared corridor.
