The Housing for Well-being project in Nuevo Laredo envisions the construction of more than 10,000 homes during the current federal administration, while the Municipal Government is simultaneously developing its own program of 115 homes for vulnerable families, reported Carlos Montiel Saeb, director of the Municipal Institute of Housing and Urban Land (Imvisu).
The official explained that the program, promoted by the Federal Government, has already begun work in the Itavu neighborhood and includes various housing developments in different parts of the city.
Among these, he highlighted a project of approximately 6,000 homes on a plot of land near the Santa Cecilia subdivision, another of approximately 900 homes in the Toboganes sector, within the El Progreso subdivision, as well as other homes planned for the south of the city. In addition, the Municipal Government is contributing 40 hectares of land where an additional 3,200 homes will be built.
In parallel, the municipality maintains its own program of 115 homes financed with municipal funds, for which an investment of 110 million pesos has been allocated.
Of that total, the first 15 homes have already been delivered to families facing vulnerable circumstances, including households with members with disabilities or special needs.
Montiel Saeb indicated that the municipal housing is aimed at people with incomes between one and two minimum wages, without any other registered property, and residing in Nuevo Laredo. The program includes monthly payments of four thousand pesos for a period of 25 years.
He also reported that the urbanization of a new sector has been completed, where 62 more homes will be put out to tender, in addition to another 38 that will be built on scattered lots in the El Progreso subdivision.
Regarding the federal program, he noted that the Imvisu (Municipal Housing Institute) has received approximately 6,200 pre-registrations from interested individuals. Of that total, approximately 55 percent have social security and contribute to Infonavit, while the remainder are uninsured individuals who will also be considered for the various housing programs.
The director of Imvisu noted that, according to INEGI data, Nuevo Laredo has a housing deficit of over 20,000 units, so the supply generated by both government programs and private developments will help reduce that demand in the coming years.
