A major mobilization of authorities took place this Wednesday afternoon following the discovery of eight bodies abandoned by the side of a road in the municipality of El Bosque, Chiapas. Preliminary reports from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) indicate that the victims include two women and six men, while initial investigations point to a possible dispute between local groups linked to drug dealing as the primary line of inquiry.

Where were the eight bodies found in Chiapas?

According to available information, the discovery occurred along the Bochil–Pueblo Nuevo highway, near the area known as Ojo de Agua—just past the gas station in Jitotol and close to a security outpost.

Following the report, personnel from various security agencies arrived at the scene to cordon off the area and allow for the commencement of official investigative procedures.

The state prosecutor’s office confirmed that it has opened an investigation file and deployed a multidisciplinary team to gather evidence and clarify the events.

Prosecutor’s office points to a dispute over drug dealing

In a statement, the agency reported that the investigation involves the coordinated efforts of the Northern District, Highlands, Strategic Investigations, and Homicide Prosecutor’s Offices, alongside investigative agents and specialized forensic experts.

According to initial data gathered during the investigation, the primary line of inquiry relates to an alleged dispute over control of retail drug sales between gangs operating in that region of Chiapas.

The prosecutor’s office stated that it would continue the investigation to determine the circumstances of the crime and bring those responsible to justice.

Discovery of a “narco-banner” reported at the scene

Unofficial reports indicate that a “narco-banner” (a banner left by criminal groups) containing a message was found alongside the bodies; the content of the message has not been disclosed by authorities.

As of now, the state prosecutor’s office has not officially confirmed this discovery nor provided information regarding the identities of the victims. The agency stated that it will release further information on the case as the investigation progresses, while forensic work and the identification of the deceased continue.
