According to the affected residents, although they had filed several reports with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), they had not received a favorable response or a solution to the problem, a situation that led to the protest demanding immediate attention.

The protesters displayed banners and blocked traffic, stating that the power outage has significantly impacted their daily lives, causing everything from food spoilage to difficulty sleeping due to the high temperatures in the Yucatecan capital.

They also indicated that the situation poses a greater challenge for senior citizens, as well as for families with young children living in the affected area.

During the protest, the residents called on the Federal Electricity Commission, a company that presents itself as a “world-class” company, to address the outage as soon as possible and restore service to the affected area.

The street closure caused traffic problems on various roads in downtown Mérida, while the protesters warned that they would maintain the protest until they received a concrete response and a date for the restoration of the electricity supply.
