A total of 656 Mexican nationals were deported by air over the weekend via five flights from the United States to Tapachula, Chiapas, security sources reported.

Aircraft operated by Global Crossing Airlines and Eastern Express Airlines landed at Tapachula International Airport, arriving from the U.S. cities of Houston, Abilene, Alexandria, Harlingen, and El Paso.

Of the total number of nationals who arrived at Mexico’s southern border, 581 were men, 60 were women, and 15 were minors—according to arrival records—and they were received under the “México te Abraza” (Mexico Embraces You) program, a joint initiative of the federal, state, and municipal governments.

According to official figures, air deportations from the United States to Mexico’s southern border doubled in the first four months of this year compared to the final four months of 2025.

The two official reception points for repatriated citizens in Chiapas and Tabasco—both bordering Guatemala—saw the number of deported nationals received rise from 7,000 to 15,000, based on data from the National Migration Institute’s (INM) statistical bulletin.

From the time Donald Trump assumed the U.S. presidency in January 2025 through April of this year, a total of 217,976 Mexican nationals have been deported to Mexico via 16 official entry points (including four airports), according to INM reports.
