An armed attack took place on the morning of Thursday, July 16, near the Centro neighborhood—just meters from the La Paz, Baja California Sur waterfront (Malecón)—leaving one person dead at the scene and another man critically injured after he returned fire.
The incident occurred during the early morning hours, prompting a major police and emergency service response to the intersection of Ocampo and Francisco I. Madero streets.
According to the official report, security personnel were alerted around 5:40 a.m. to multiple gunshots at the aforementioned intersection. Upon arrival, police officers were met by a citizen who guided them inside a home where the victims had taken shelter.
A witness told authorities he was in the bathroom when he heard approximately 10 gunshots. Upon exiting, he saw two hooded individuals shouting, “Where is he? Let’s go!” before they fled in a black-and-red Nissan vehicle.
According to the testimony, the victim—identified as Noé “N,” approximately 35 years old—managed to return fire but sustained life-threatening injuries; he was rushed to the hospital under emergency priority status.
He had a gunshot wound to the chest (an entry wound with no exit) and another in his right leg with active bleeding. The deceased was wearing dark jeans, one white sock, and one black sneaker, with half his face covered by a black t-shirt. The Public Prosecutor initiated the investigation and the necessary procedures to request a search warrant to secure evidence at the scene, where eight vehicles and a motorcycle were also parked.
