Taxco de Alarcón is gearing up to become a major hub for sports tourism in Mexico with the second edition of the Taxco 2026 Volleyball Cup. This event will bring together hundreds of teams and attract thousands of visitors over three days of activities in this “Magical Town” (Pueblo Mágico) in Guerrero.

The competition, scheduled for August 14–16, has established itself as one of the region’s most important sporting events.

According to the organizers, the tournament has seen significant growth compared to the previous edition, reflecting the interest it has sparked among clubs and athletes from across the country.

During the event’s official presentation, Guerrero’s Secretary of Tourism, Simón Quiñones Orozco, highlighted that “competitions of this kind are part of the state’s strategy to diversify tourism offerings and create new experiences for those visiting destinations in Guerrero.”

He noted that the arrival of athletes, coaches, and their families represents a significant opportunity for the local economy, as visitors take advantage of their stay to explore Taxco’s cultural, culinary, and artisanal attractions.

The official emphasized that the Taxco Cup aligns with the “Something New Under the Sun” (Algo Nuevo Bajo el Sol) tourism campaign—promoted by Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda’s administration—which aims to show that even well-known destinations can offer fresh experiences for travelers.

Meanwhile, Taxco Mayor Juan Andrés Vega Carranza acknowledged the coordination between state and municipal governments, as well as the participation of the private sector, in making this sporting event possible.

He remarked that “events of this magnitude help strengthen Taxco’s profile as a tourist destination and generate benefits for various local economic sectors.”

Organizers Francisco Torres and Diego Estrada explained that the competition has quickly secured a place on the national volleyball calendar, a fact reflected in the increased number of teams registered for this edition.

“The tournament’s growth not only strengthens the sport itself but also boosts tourism activity in the municipality and nearby communities,” they explained. The event presentation brought together representatives from the sports, tourism, and business sectors, who agreed that the Taxco 2026 Cup will help establish the Pueblo Mágico as a key venue for hosting national-level sporting events, while simultaneously boosting tourism promotion for Guerrero.
