The businessman who went viral on social media after allegedly assaulting a receptionist at the Park Life Paradox Hotel in Santa Fe, Mexico City, has already been reported to authorities, and the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) has opened an investigation. It has also emerged that he faces additional complaints related to alleged real estate fraud in Mazatlán.
What Is Known About the Businessman Who Allegedly Assaulted a Receptionist in Mexico City?
The alleged attacker has been identified as Octavio Cortés Jiménez, a businessman from Mazatlán who has faced real estate fraud complaints from 70 families since 2022.
According to the complainants, they transferred ownership of their land in exchange for receiving apartments to be built by Grupo Universal Inmobiliaria de Torres Triana, a company reportedly linked to Cortés Jiménez.
The families filed their complaints after the company allegedly failed to fulfill its contractual obligation to deliver the apartments. They also claimed that changes were made to the Public Property Registry, putting their property rights at risk.
In addition to the real estate fraud allegations, Octavio Cortés Jiménez has also been linked to a domestic violence case in the United States, for which he was arrested in California in 2025, according to various national media outlets.
What Happened to the Receptionist Who Was Attacked at the Mexico City Hotel?
The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office stated that the assaulted receptionist is receiving institutional support and that an investigation has been opened following the complaint in order to determine any criminal responsibility and possible omissions related to the incident.
The Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) also reported that the victim is 40 years old and that officers have spoken with both her and the hotel manager to provide guidance and assistance while the Attorney General’s Office implements the necessary protective measures.
What Penalty Could the Alleged Attacker Face?
According to the Federal Criminal Code, the alleged attacker could face imprisonment, although the length of the sentence would depend on the severity of the victim’s injuries.
If the injuries do not endanger the victim’s life and heal within 15 days, the penalty ranges from three to eight months in prison or a fine of 30 to 50 days. If the injuries take longer than 15 days to heal, the sentence may increase to up to two years in prison.
If the injuries are considered life-threatening, the penalty may range from three to six years in prison.
