Two former agents of the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) have now been formally charged and placed under pretrial detention in Querétaro after being linked to a kidnapping that occurred in the municipality of Colón while they were still serving in their official positions.
The most recent arrest and formal indictment involved Jorge Iván N, identified in the investigation as a former federal public servant who worked for the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) of the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) based in Mexico City. He was identified as a co-perpetrator in the alleged crimes of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, stemming from events that occurred on June 12 in the municipality of Colón.
According to the investigation, Jorge Iván N acted alongside a group of seven individuals, including another suspect identified as a Federal Ministerial Police officer assigned to the same specialized prosecutor’s office. The group allegedly posed as members of law enforcement and justice institutions to simulate the execution of a search warrant and an arrest warrant against the manager of a company located along the highway to Bernal, using fraudulent documents and counterfeit official insignia to gain access to the business.
During the operation, the victim was abducted, while various assets and 800,000 pesos in cash were allegedly stolen from the company.
The victim was later transported to Mexico City, where the individuals identified as the suspected participants allegedly demanded a multimillion-peso ransom from the victim’s family in exchange for the victim’s release.
A pursuit later unfolded along Federal Highway 57, resulting in the arrest of three men in San Juan del Río during their attempted escape. The remaining four suspects were arrested at a safe house in the Guerrero neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc Borough in Mexico City, where the victim was also rescued during a large interagency operation.
At the time of the rescue, only one active FGR agent was found at the safe house, accompanied by two men and one woman who were guarding the victim. Jorge Iván N was not present.
The investigation later established his alleged role as a co-perpetrator in both the kidnapping and the robbery committed against the company, alleging that he coordinated the simulated operation remotely while he was reportedly on duty at FEMDO headquarters during the incident.
His arrest was made possible through Federal Interagency Cooperation involving the Specialized Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Criminal Investigation Police of the Querétaro Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Security Cabinet, the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Extortion Unit of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), and the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC).
Authorities executed the arrest warrant in Mexico City after Jorge Iván N’s previously arrested accomplices allegedly identified him and provided information regarding his whereabouts.
During the initial hearing, the court ordered that he be formally charged, imposed justified pretrial detention as a precautionary measure, and established a three-month period for the complementary investigation to determine his legal responsibility for the alleged crimes of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
As a result, there are now two former federal agents formally charged in connection with the case and a total of eight individuals under arrest for these events.
