Four people have been arrested in Chiapas following the circulation of a viral video showing the sexual abuse of a minor in the municipality of Sabanilla, according to the state’s Attorney General, Jorge Llaven Abarca.
Those arrested include the two men seen in the video assaulting the child, the individual who recorded and distributed the footage, and a fourth suspect who allegedly acted as a lookout to help the others evade authorities.
The video surfaced on social media on Saturday and showed two men physically restraining a child on a property in the northern region of the state. Its circulation sparked widespread public outrage online. Once the Chiapas State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) became aware of the footage, it opened a criminal investigation and assigned a special investigative team to the case.
Rescue of the Child and Psychological Care
The investigation led authorities to locate the child’s family later that same Saturday. The child was transferred to the municipality of Yajalón, where he remains under institutional protection.
Llaven Abarca confirmed that the child is receiving care from specialized psychologists and that preliminary evaluations indicate severe psychological trauma.
“According to the psychological evaluations, the child, whose identity remains protected, has suffered severe psychological harm. We are providing all necessary care with specialist psychologists so that we can help the child recover,” the attorney general said during a live broadcast on social media.
The Four Arrested and Their Alleged Roles
The FGE identified and arrested four individuals with different levels of alleged involvement in the crime.
The first is Aurelio N., the owner of the property where the video was recorded, who allegedly appears in the footage physically restraining the child.
The second is Octavio N., identified as the alleged perpetrator of the sexual assault.
The third suspect is Gabino N., who allegedly recorded the assault and later distributed the video through a WhatsApp network, leading to its widespread circulation.
The fourth individual arrested is Fernando N., who does not appear in the video but is accused of acting as a lookout by warning the other suspects about the presence of law enforcement officers, allowing them to evade capture. Llaven Abarca stated that this conduct complicated and delayed the identification and arrest of those involved.
Charges of Child Sexual Abuse and Possible Sentences
The three principal suspects—Aurelio N., Octavio N., and Gabino N.—are facing charges of pederasty (child sexual abuse), an offense that carries a sentence of up to 50 years in prison under Chiapas law.
At the time of the attorney general’s statement, two of the suspects were already being transferred to appear before judicial authorities.
The investigation is being handled by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Indigenous Justice, as the alleged crimes occurred in Sabanilla, a municipality located in the northern jungle region of Chiapas.

Attorney General Jorge Llaven Abarca also delivered a statement on behalf of Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, who has repeatedly called for firm action against crimes committed against children.
“Anyone who chooses to commit a crime should understand that the only path awaiting them is to face justice. We will go to every corner of Chiapas to find anyone who has committed a crime. Let this be absolutely clear and unequivocal,” the attorney general said.
