THE MEXICAN BEER THAT WAS BORN ON THE BORDER… AND WAS THE FIRST TO BE SOLD IN CANS

The history of Tecate began on August 20, 1944, when entrepreneur Alberto Aldrete founded the brewery in the Magic Town of Tecate, Baja California, transforming a former vegetable oil factory into a modern brewing plant. Over time, the brand would become one of Mexico’s most recognized beers.

One of its greatest achievements was making history by launching the first canned beer produced in Mexico, an innovation that revolutionized the country’s brewing industry and changed the way beer was consumed nationwide.

Thanks to its strategic location near the United States border and major railway routes, the company expanded rapidly during World War II. In 1954, the brand was acquired by Cervecería Cuauhtémoc, now part of Heineken México, which fueled its nationwide expansion and established its iconic red and silver colors.

Innovation continued in 1992, when Tecate introduced Mexico’s first light beer, marking another milestone in the brewing industry. In addition, its distinctive eagle logo pays tribute to the identity and spirit of northern Mexico.

Today, Tecate is one of the most recognized Mexican beer brands both nationally and internationally, with a strong presence in popular culture, sports, and especially the world of boxing, where it has sponsored some of the sport’s biggest events for decades.
