Veracruz Accounts for 65 Percent of Mexico’s Pineapple Production
Veracruz accounts for 65 percent of Mexico’s pineapple production, according to the most up-to-date data from Mexico’s Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP).
Veracruz was the state with the highest pineapple production (in tons) in 2024. According to the latest data from SIAP’s Agricultural Production Statistical Yearbook, national production was as follows:
- Veracruz: 841,360 tons
- Oaxaca: 188,386 tons
- Nayarit: 74,735 tons
- Tabasco: 61,023 tons
- Quintana Roo: 45,231 tons
The municipality of Isla, in southern Veracruz, ranked as the largest pineapple producer in all of Mexico, with 235,054.53 tons in a single year.
Veracruz’s total contribution in 2024 represented a production value of 4,220,235 pesos, followed by Oaxaca with 1,292,225 pesos, while the remaining states were each valued at less than one million pesos.
Municipalities in Veracruz with the Highest Pineapple Production
Out of the state’s 212 municipalities, 14 contributed to the reported total of 841,360 tons. According to SIAP, the San Andrés Tuxtla district recorded the highest pineapple production, totaling 631,077.72 tons. Overall, the municipalities with the highest production were:
- Isla: 235,054.53 tons
- Juan Rodríguez Clara: 211,347.12 tons
- José Azueta: 168,596.82 tons
- San Juan Evangelista: 99,874.00 tons
- Medellín de Bravo: 56,832.40 tons
Veracruz provides favorable conditions for the cultivation and harvesting of a wide variety of fruits due to its ecosystem, a factor reflected in its leadership in pineapple production.
