From August 5 to 9, Aguascalientes will once again become the chess capital by hosting the 2026 National and International Chess Championship, considered the country’s most important tournament and one of the most prominent in Latin America.
The Tres Centurias Complex—specifically the Foro 3C—will host this major event, bringing together hundreds of players from home and abroad, as well as grandmasters and influencers in the field. This further solidifies the state’s reputation as a premier destination for organizing high-level sports competitions.
The three previous editions were resounding successes, establishing this championship as Mexico’s most important chess event thanks to its organizational quality, high level of competition, and the participation of leading figures in the “sport of the mind.”
The championship is organized by the Government of the State of Aguascalientes through the Aguascalientes State Sports Institute (IDEA), in coordination with the Aguascalientes Chess Association, the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), the National Chess Federation, and Mexico Chess Talent.
This edition features a prize fund of 2,050,000 pesos—one of the most attractive in the country. Competitions will be held in International, Expert, Advanced, and Amateur categories, as well as Under-17, Under-15, Under-13, Under-11, and Under-9 divisions for both men and women.
Activities will begin daily at 10:00 a.m., spanning five days of intense competition, strategy, and talent. This event fosters the development of chess and showcases Aguascalientes as a host for major national and international sporting events.
