Driven by the vision of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, Tamaulipas’s progress is reflected in initiatives such as the Nuevo Laredo III Bridge project, which will position the state as the border crossing with the highest volume of economic exchange with the United States.
In an interview with media outlets from the state capital, Secretary of Public Works Pedro Cepeda Anaya announced that work will begin in the second half of the year. The project entails expanding the existing structure from eight to ten lanes and constructing a new, parallel eight-lane span. This will result in a total of 18 lanes dedicated to freight traffic, substantially increasing the operational capacity of Mexico’s primary commercial crossing.
He highlighted that approximately 50 percent of the country’s freight transport passes through this international crossing; given this volume and the rising demand for heavy-duty trucks, the World Trade Bridge is set to become the busiest hub for economic activity in Latin America.
Cepeda Anaya explained that the expansion of the Nuevo Laredo III International Bridge will expedite crossing times, lower logistics costs, and boost regional competitiveness—directly benefiting productive sectors, foreign trade, and job creation within the state.
The Nuevo Laredo III Bridge project represents an investment in the state’s economic future, strengthening connectivity with the country’s main export market and cementing Tamaulipas’s status as the most important gateway for trade between Mexico and the United States.
