U.S. Government Suspends Official Activities in Michoacán Over Security Threat
The United States Government suspended its official activities in Michoacán beginning Wednesday, August 5, following a security threat against U.S. interests.
In a security alert, the U.S. Mission to Mexico announced that the measure applies throughout the entire state.
The U.S. Department of State also reiterated that Michoacán remains under a Level 4: “Do Not Travel” advisory, the highest level in its travel warning system.
Guidance for U.S. Citizens
In response to the situation, the U.S. government advised American citizens to:
- Monitor local news and media for updates.
- Keep family and friends informed of their location and well-being.
- Contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulates in Mexico if assistance is needed.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates.
- Call 911 in the event of an emergency.
As of now, the security alert does not specify the nature of the threat that prompted the suspension of official activities.
