The “Marca GTO” (Marca Guanajuato) initiative is celebrating its 10th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in regional economic development. The program, which serves as a badge of quality for goods made in Guanajuato, now encompasses over 9,130 businesses across the state’s 46 municipalities, with 3,652 of these enterprises currently led by women.

Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo highlighted that the program acts as more than just a label; it is a seal of quality that guarantees products are “well-made in Guanajuato.” By providing this distinction, the program helps local entrepreneurs gain credibility, allowing them to compete not only in the domestic Mexican market but also to expand their reach internationally.

To foster this growth, the Secretariat of Economy offers a comprehensive support system. Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, the Secretary of Economy, explained that the program provides an “end-to-end” accompaniment model. This includes assistance with brand registration, quality certification, financial training, and access to funding schemes—resources that have been instrumental in transforming home-based projects into thriving export businesses.

The success of this model is evidenced by entrepreneurs like Paulina González Casamadrid, whose business started in a home garage and now exports leather goods to the United States, Colombia, Australia, and Europe. Similarly, Kevin Mattingly Romo, founder of Salsas La Kalaka, has successfully positioned his products in international markets.

As Marca GTO enters its second decade, the state government continues to call on local citizens to leverage these institutional resources. The program serves as a testament to how local talent, when supported by strategic mentorship and certification, can achieve global reach, reinforcing the state’s role as a major hub for entrepreneurial innovation.
